Leaf/James Wedding September 17, 1949

It is very fitting that my first post for "Real Weddings," would be one of my family members. My Aunt Elaine Leaf married to Kenneth James (Uncle Ken) :)
Ruth Elaine Leaf and Kenneth E. James were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, in Birmingham Michigan on September 17, 1949. The weather was perfect in the low 70's with no rain. 

The bride was dressed in a stunning satin gown with lace sleeves and bodice and an illusion neckline. The unique detail of a drop pointed waistline enhances the satin a-line skirt. Her headpiece was very traditional and timely for 1949. The veil was silk tulle with a rolled edge. The Bride's bouquet was a beautiful waterfall style with white roses, green ferns and cascading satin ribbons.

The Bride's maid-of-honor was her sister Dorothy Wyckoff. Dorothy's (Aunt Dotty) gown was pink, the 4 bridesmaids wore pale blue brocade, satin gowns, slightly off the shoulder. The attendants wore matching hats, gloves and a simple strand of pearls. .

The Mothers were escorted down the aisle by the Bride's brothers, Arthur (my Dad) & Walter Richard (Uncle Dick). Both Mothers wore blue floor length gowns.

The Bride walked down the aisle to the traditional "Here Comes the Bride." Three of their favorite hyms were played prior to the ceremony.

Guests dined and danced at the Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak, directly following the ceremony. The cake was a three layer white on white.

The bride tosses her boquet after changing into her going away suit. 

In 1979 thier daughter's wedding mimicked their own. Watch for Janet & David's wedding!
